ABOUT THE NATIONAL UNITY DAY

November 4th, 2009 a solemn reception dedicated to the National Unity Day was held in the Embassy of Russia in Mexico.

Russian compatriots living in Mexico, officials of the Embassy and other Russian institutions – all in all about 300 people – were present.

In his complimentary address the Russian Ambassador Valery Morozov told the guests about the history and the significance of this day for the Russian Federation. “We can assert that in November 1612 the civil responsibility for the destiny of our country, for its independent future was born”.

The Ambassador acquainted the public with the main orientation of the governmental policy in this sphere, including political and legal, diplomatic, economic, social, cultural, informational and other events. He also spoke about the Work Program with Compatriots Abroad 2009-2011. Moreover he mentioned that we actively have to use the historical dates that join Russia and Mexico. The approaching year is an anniversary not only for Mexico – 200 years since the beginning of the struggle for independence, 100 years since the Mexican Revolution – but also for Russian-Mexican relations. We will celebrate 120 years since the official establishment of relationship between Russia and Mexico. A big date is the celebration of 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Second World War, Mexico and we were allies during that war. The 65th anniversary of the UN foundation will also be celebrated; the USSR and Mexico were among the constitutors of this Organization.

This event took place after the Regional Conference of Compatriots of the North, Central and South Americas that occurred in the middle of October. The Conference received many positive comments.

Especially for this date the Rossotrudnichestvo in the main hall of the Embassy organized a photo exhibition; it was dedicated to contemporary Russia. During the reception some concerts of the opera music and music of Russian composers were performed.
