On November 22nd, 2008 a solemn ceremony of awarding the Pushkin Medal
to the Mexican translator Selma Ansira took place in the
Embassy of the Russian Federation in Mexico.

According to the President’s decree the Pushkin medal was awarded “for contribution to propagating and popularizing the Russian language and culture”.

Selma Ansira graduated from the language and literature faculty of the Moscow State University. She translated into Spanish a number of Russian classic works of Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Selma Ansira is working now on the project of cultural exchange between Russia and Mexico. Thanks to her efforts the Festival of the Russian culture took place in Queretaro. V.Tolstoy, director of Leo Tolstoy museum in Yasnaya Polyana, and A.Sholokhov, Nobel prize-winner Mikhail Sholokhov’s grandson, took part in the Festival.


As the Russian Ambassador to Mexico Valery Morozov delivered the Russian government decoration to Selma Ansira, he noted “It is a great honour for me to award in the name of the President of Russia this medal which recognizes Selma Ansira’s contribution to propagating and popularizing the Russian language and culture and her efforts to draw our countries together”.

In her turn Selma Ansira thanked the Ambassador for such honourable and important award. “My activity of many years has been appreciated” - she said.
