REGIONAL CONFERENCE OF RUSSIAN COMPATRIOTS IN MEXICO

On October, 16-17th, 2009 in Mexico City has taken place the third Regional Conference of the compatriots living in the countries of America. More than 50 delegates of the organizations of compatriots from 17 states of continent, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and fund «Russian world» have taken part in the solemn ceremony.

Participants and visitors of a meeting have warmly accepted the welcome message of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov in which it was confirmed constant support of the Russian compatriots by the country leaders and the Governmental commission on affairs of compatriots abroad.

In an opening address the Ambassador of Russia in Mexico Valery I. Morozov has called the participants to active discussion of the tasks of organizations of compatriots and country coordination councils, and also to joint search of ways of their decision. He has underlined that «revival of Russia, strengthening of its positions as one of leading world powers, places special responsibility to compatriots as the fates decree appeared outside of the Native land». The Ambassador has noticed that «one of the major problems of the meeting is consolidation of the Russian Diaspora of the Western hemisphere and in future there will be more work on association of communities and adjustment of communications between Coordination councils from the different countries».

In the framework of conference have taken place plenary sessions and round tables when the participants have summed up joint activity during the past year, have heard reports on realization of projects in sphere of advancement of Russian and culture in the region countries, have shared problems which should face compatriots from Russia abroad.

On the basis of$ conference results has been accepted Final Resolution reflecting the basic directions of work of the compatriots organizations in the region in cultural-educational, socially-legal and information spheres. Among priorities have been defined: strengthening of positions of Russian language, work activization on preparation by celebrating of the 65 anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and also youth involving in the activity of Russian Diasporas abroad. Besides, the participants of session have been chosen representatives of region for participation in the World Congress of Compatriots which will be held in Moscow on December, 1-2st of 2009.

After the end of the sessions for all participants and visitors of the Conference have been organized the concert and the solemn reception with the degustation of traditional dishes of a Russian cuisine in the Embassy of Russia.
