IV Compatriots Conference in Mexico

April 24th, 2009 the IV Compatriots Conference in Mexico was held in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Mexico. More than 60 people from different regions of Mexico were present at the meeting. Among the main issues of the conference were: the work on the Russian diaspora consolidation in the country and the cooperation of the Coordination Council of Compatriots with the Russian Orthodox Church in Mexico. The topic of further interaction with childhood and youth was discussed too.

The Russian Ambassador in Mexico addressed the meeting and informed about the actions of the government of Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the sphere of compatriots’ supporting abroad. Moreover he stated the positive movement in the functioning of the Coordination Council and highlighted that its activities every time involve more and more immigrants from Russia living in Mexico.

The guests had a chance to listen to a talk of the President of the Coordination Council Sergey Kilyakov and to some reports of the compatriots who have taken part in the international conferences and forums. The speech of the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Mexico abbot Nectariy was also welcomed. He spoke about the part that is taken by his parish in consolidation and supporting of Russian diaspora.

At the same time as one of the main problems was mentioned the regular work on conservation of cultural identity and Russian language on the whole territory of the country: creation of the united information area for the compatriots in Mexico and the possible opening of the Russian cultural center attached to the Embassy.

In conclusion the participants confirmed the final variant of the compatriots’ organization in Mexico (SORUMEX) inner regulations and accepted the overall resolution that shows the main work areas for the future.

After the official part there was a solemn reception on behalf of the Russian Ambassador in Mexico for all participants of the conference.
