The Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos) Delegation’s visit to Mexico

In the end of March 2009 the Russian delegation from Roscosmos came to Mexico with a working visit invited by the Science and Technology Committee of the Mexican Senate. They had a meeting with the pushing group that works on forming of the Mexican National Space Agency. Roscosmos experts imparted to their Mexican colleagues about the Russian space industry facilities. The Deputy Chief of the Federal Space Agency Sergey Saveliev, who was the head of the delegation, said that Roscosmos is ready to render assistance to Mexico in the development of its national space program: “At present Mexico is creating its national space program and our colleagues asked us for help on working out of the project of such program, that can be fulfilled on the commercial basis”.

Saveliev highlighted that Russia is a leading space power and has a great experience in the elaboration of such documents.

“In particular we elaborated a similar project for Kazakhstan. Mexicans want to have their program too, so that they will give a commercial tendency to their agency and get profit” – said the Deputy Chief of Roscosmos.

According to him, the Mexican party was interested in the Earth remote sensing satellite system that is the Global Navigation Satellite System GLONASS.

“The interest was also shown to the cooperation in the sphere of fundamental space researches, satellite systems of communication and telecasting and also experts training in the space area” – he added.

Besides, he reminded of the Cooperation agreement in the area of space research and use of the outer space in peaceful means that was concluded between Russia and Mexico in 1996: “Nowadays we have to create an effective legal basis relying on this agreement with the view of successful collaboration with Mexico on the issue of outer space.

One of the leading courses of the Roscosmos work is its foreign-economic activities that must give Russian space-rocket businesses way to the international market. Our visit will help us in dealing with this problem.”
