On January 13 Russia celebrated an authentic national holiday - “The Old New Year”, which takes his origin from the epoch of the emperor Julius Caesar and put into practice after the revolution of 1917.
This day the Russian Orthodox Community assembled in the attached auditorium to the Sacrosanct Monastery of the Holiest Trinidad, with the support of the Embassy of Russia in Mexico, organized a wide cultural presentation, offering to the public an exhibition of icons and Gobelin tapestries, property of the Asceterio, as well as the possibility of meeting personally professionals and Russian artists, between them talented university and medical teachers, musicians, photographers and writers, who at present live and work in Mexico.
The list of distinguished guests, who assisted the event, was headed by the Excmo. Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Mr. Valery Morózov and the Excmo. Ambassador of the Republic Cyprus, Mr. Vasilis Philippou, along with noble Slavonic families of mellow ancestry.
During the opening ceremony Mr. Serguéy Kiliakov, President of the Association of Russian Compatriots in Mexico (SORUMEX), gave to the Rector of the Russian Orthodox Church, Abbot Nektary and to the Community a game of chalice and paten liturgical, made of the workshops of the Patriarchy of Moscow. This act was like the gesture of the communion of the Russian, resident colony in Mexico, under the unconditional guide of its own Church.
For his part Abbot Nektary distributed between the guests the traditional cake of San Vasilio who was bringing an agreeable surprise – a golden currency, blessing symbol for the community.
The guests of the event, happening facing the tripies, which in Russian call "trenózhnik", could feel deep looks of the Christian saints and on having approached, it was possible to see that these eyes, so alive, are a result of the meticulous work of the Russian tailors - craftsmen. At the same time the young singers of the school of the Embassy offered a spectacular presentation of Russian traditional songs.
